Meet Eru Oneroa, the fresh kid on the block at Working Style's Shortland Street. With a passion for tailored menswear and a knack for client relations, Eru brings a dynamic energy to the team. In this journal post, we learn about Eru's interests, and what drew him to the world of menswear.

What attracted you to the fashion industry initially, and how did you find your way to Working Style?

Before joining Working Style, I was deeply immersed in university life, pursuing classical singing. Dressing up for performances and shows became a regular part of my routine, which I loved. However, over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to the artistic nature and craftsmanship of fashion. One day, I found myself in Parnell, I had a chat with the team there and they thought I could be a good fit for the company. It turns out they were right. Now, I’m lucky enough to bring my passion and creativity to work every day and do what I love.

How do you like to spend your time away from work?

When I'm not in the bustling metropolis of Auckland CBD, you'll likely find me slowing down, fishing at a beach in the far north with my brothers or strumming my ukulele and singing songs with my grandparents. I still have a deep love for music and performing, and I find great peace in spending time with my family and serving as a singer at my church on Sundays.

What item do you think every man should have in his wardrobe?

Fashion is such a personal form of self-expression that it’s hard to say, but in my opinion, every man deserves a good blue suit. I know that the post-covid world may have decided that suits are out, but nothing gives me a boost of confidence like donning my blue suit and tie. And what's more important than the colour of the suit is the man who measures it for you; luckily, I know a guy.

What is your favourite thing about working in menswear/at Working Style?

There's a beauty in retail where you have the opportunity to witness many different walks of life. People trust you to be a small part of their big days and life events like weddings and important celebrations, while at the same time others include you in their everyday routines, whether it’s in their favourite pair of shoes that bring them joy or wearing a tie that boosts their confidence. Regardless of the occasion, it brings me great satisfaction that my service can improve someone else's day.

Do you have any recommendations for great spots to visit around our Shortland Street store?

If I’m not in the store I’m likely to be around the corner at Le Chef on Vulcan Lane, it’s a great little hole in the wall with a cozy urban vibe and the people there are wonderful. I’ve bought so many coffees at that place that they probably owe me shares.
